Why Areteworks
Medical device expertise. A deeper understanding of your users.
With 25+ years of experience designing Class II and Class III medical devices, we combine user research, UX design, and human factors to create usable products—with research and design documentation to support FDA submissions when needed.
We study the entire workflow, capturing not just what people do, but where they hesitate, feel uncertain, or lose confidence. We systematically document these emotional and behavioral signals and translate them into clearer workflows, more predictable product behavior, and designs people can use with confidence.
We keep the process focused and efficient—building prototypes, bringing them to intended users early, and refining the design through their feedback. This helps resolve important design questions before your team commits to development.

Questions about working together
Practical answers about scope, collaboration, and getting started.
What does a medical device design company do?
A medical device design company helps turn product goals and user needs into a device people can use effectively. At Areteworks, our focus is UX, UI, usability, and human factors. We study how clinicians, patients, and caregivers work, then translate those findings into workflows, concepts, prototypes, and design guidance.
Can you help with both new and existing medical devices?
Yes. We support new product development and improvements to existing devices. A project may begin with early research and concept exploration, or with a specific challenge such as confusing setup, unclear feedback, or a workflow that takes too many steps. We work with your team to identify priorities and test potential improvements.
Can you work with our engineering and human factors teams?
Yes. We collaborate with product managers, engineers, and human factors specialists, either leading UX work or contributing to a defined part of the program. We share research findings, develop and test prototypes, and provide UI guidelines and specifications. We can also support your team’s human factors documentation and coordinate with specialists on validation planning.
What’s included in medical device design consulting?
The scope depends on your product and the decisions ahead. An engagement can include a UX review, observation and interviews, task and workflow analysis, design recommendations, and formative usability testing. Broader programs can continue through detailed UX and UI design, prototypes, and implementation support. We agree on priorities and deliverables with your team before work begins.
When should we bring you in?
Ideally, before requirements and workflows are fixed, when research can still influence major design decisions. We also join teams during a redesign, after usability testing reveals problems, or when an existing device needs improvement. If development is already underway, we can help identify a practical starting point.
Can we start with a focused UX review?
Yes. Start with a free 30-minute conversation about your device, intended users, project stage, and usability concerns. You can share current designs, prototypes, or research findings. Together, we can identify where a focused review would be useful and define the next steps.
