DIGITAL ORTHODONTICS
Background
Insignia is Ormco's 3D treatment planning system, used by orthodontists to design custom brackets, wires, and aligners for each patient. FDA-cleared and used in over 100,000 cases worldwide, it combines digital diagnostics with manufacturing workflow.
Ormco brought Areteworks in to design the orthodontist-facing application, the surface where case design, appliance ordering, and treatment tracking come together.
TWO MONTHS, CONCEPT TO TESTING
Challenge
Orthodontists work fast, across many patients per day, with no time for software friction. The existing workflow had scattered case management, slow searches, and disconnected views of treatment plans, orders, and patient alerts.
Drawing on decades of medical and clinical UX experience, Areteworks ran ethnographic research in orthodontic practices, translating how doctors and their staff actually move through a treatment day into a unified dashboard. Concept to validated usability testing in 2 months.
ONE DASHBOARD, FULL VIEW
Solution
We designed a single dashboard surfacing what each orthodontist needed at a glance: priority cases, treatment progress, pending approvals, and patient alerts. Searches became immediate. Appointments, office assignments, and case status sat in one view. Patient images were easier to attach, annotate, and share.
The result: an orthodontic application with streamlined workflows, improved accuracy, and the case clarity orthodontists rely on across a busy practice.
